I'm glad that Haru has mustache and goatee. As for people saying it looks freaky, the appearance of most young men who grow mustaches may seem weird at first. But there is nothing odd about Haru having a mustache.

Haru having a mustache is completely realistic, and in my opinion, it is a welcome change in the character design of young, anime-style men.
